Qué vs. Cuál They both can mean “what” but Cuál follows more with “Which”. However this rule cannot always be applied
Qué Qué is used when asking for definitions ¿Qué es una ciudad? ¿Qué significa “libro” en español? ¿Qué hace un presidente?
Qué Qué is also used before a noun. (cuál can be used and it is not incorrect, but it is meant for which) ¿Qué casa prefieres? ¿Qué libro lees?
Cuál Cuál is used when it is followed by the verb ser when not seeking for a definition. ¿Cuál es tu número de teléfono? ¿Cuál es tu problema?
Cuál Cuál is also used with a selection. ¿Cuál prefieres? ¿Cuál quieres? We could also use Qué here as well but will have different meaning
