Ser + adjective  to indicate what the subject is like (inherent to the person, place, or thing) Es alto, moreno, simpático y muy inteligente.  Therefore, ser is the only option with adjectives that can only express inherent qualities Santiago es inteligente y trabajador. Santiago está inteligente y trabajador. Así se forma 4: Ser and estar (A summary) Estar + adjective  to indicate a STATE of being:  the physical, mental or emotional state Ella está un poco enferma.  Estar, on the other hand, is the only option with adjectives that can only express states Santiago está bien/ mal/ cansado, contento.
