Apuntes de mayo Comparaciones Comparisons México es más grande que Guatemala. Mexico is bigger than Guatemala. La apariencia es menos importante que la inteligencia. Appearance is less important than intelligence. El salmón es tan bueno como la langosta. Salmon is as good as lobster.

Comparisons of inequality are formed using the words más (more) and menos (less). They follow this pattern:

La langosta es más cara que el salmón. Lobster is more expensive than salmon. ↑ adjetivo Llego más temprano que Uds. I arrive earlier than you guys. ↑ adverbio Tengo más paciencia que tú. I have more patience than you. ↑ sustantivo (noun)

With verbs, use the following formula to compare inequality: verb + más/menos que Yo trabajo más que ella. I work more than she does. Mario estudia menos que María. Mario studies less than Maria does.

The following constructions are used to make comparisons of equality: Shakira es tan talentosa como Christina Aguilera. Shakira is as talented as Christina Aguilera. Raquel tiene tantos hermanos como Pablo. Raquel has as many siblings as Pablo.

Comparisons of equality involving verbs follow this pattern: verb + tanto como Como tanto como tú. I eat as much as you.

Some adjectives have irregular comparative forms. El bistec es mejor que el pollo. Steak is better than chicken. Arturo es mayor que Ricardo. Arturo is older than Ricardo.
