Saber y conocer

The verbs saber and conocer both mean…

But, to know what? Like ser and estar, the verbs saber and conocer mean the same thing, but are used in different situations.

Saber means to know facts… Ejemplo: ¿Sabes si tenemos tarea para la clase de biología?

Saber means to know information… Ejemplos: ¿Sabes quién es el director de la banda? Maribel no sabe el número de teléfono de Juan.

Saber can also be paired with an infinitive of another verb to say that you know how to do something. Ejemplos: No sé cocinar. ¿Sabes nadar?

Conocer means to know (or meet) a person… Mario conoce a Marcos.  Remember to use the personal a when you use conocer to say you know a person or have met a person.

Conocer means to know a place… Ejemplo: Conozco el club atlético de la calle Cooper.

Conocer means to know (be familiar with) a thing… Ejemplo: Elena conoce computadoras.

Conjugation Saber and conocer both have normal –er endings in the present tense, –But each has an irregular yo form.
