Before we get to estar, let’s review: How do we say “to be”? SER How do we say I am? Yo soy; soy (we can leave out the yo) We have used ser to describe ourselves (ex. Sociable, athletic, funny, etc)

BUT, WAIT… There is another way to say “to be” ESTAR ALTHOUGH THEY MEAN THE SAME THING, YOU USE THEM IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS (you can’t randomly choose which verb to use)

The verb chart Estar = to be yo estoy nosotros estamos tú estás vosotros estáis él ellos ella está ellas están ud. Uds. Estar is irregular in the yo form (AND it has accents)

The uses: Emotions: ¿Cómo estás?  How are you? Estoy contenta  I am happy Location: ¿Dónde está el libro? El libro está al lado del escritorio

Del Del is contraction of de + el = del de + él does NOT equal del * If de is followed by the masculine, singular definite article, use del
