Indirect Object Pronouns

Do you remember “Me gusta? What does it mean literally? It is pleasing to me.

That “me” is an indirect object pronoun! What other Indirect Object Pronouns can you think of? Me Te Le

Copy these to your notes! me = to me, for me  nos = to us, for us  te = to you, for you  os = to you all, for you all le = to/for him, her, you (formal)  les = to/for them, you (plural) 

We will use the indirect object pronouns with dar. Why do you think we have to use them with this verb? Because we give something to someone.

Other verbs commonly used with indirect object pronouns: molestar – to bother (someone) obedecer – to obey (someone) desobedecer – to disobey (someone) comprar – to buy (for someone) escuchar – to listen (to someone) mostrar – to show (to someone) decir – to say/tell (to someone)

How do we know “to whom” with le/les? You have to include: a él, a ella, or a Ud. a ellos, a ellas, or a Uds. Le doy unos bloques a él. Les doy unos bloques a ellos.

So where does the IOP go in the sentence So where does the IOP go in the sentence? The same place as most pronouns… ¿Me das un regalo? Sí, te doy un regalo?   BEFORE THE CONJUGATED VERB! ADD TO YOUR NOTES!

OR… ¿Puedes darme un regalo? -Sí, puedo darte un regalo?   ATTACHED TO THE END OF THE INFINITIVE! ADD TO YOUR NOTES!

Tú nos das un juguete a nosotros. What goes with what… The IOP shows to whom. Tú nos das un juguete a nosotros. The verb shows who gives. ADD TO YOUR NOTES!
