ANTE TODO You will now learn Usted/Ustedes commands, which are used to give direct orders or suggestions to one person (usted--formal and singular) or more than one person (ustedes--formal and familiar).

Cruce la calle. Cross the street. (you, formal & singular) Both affirmative and negative Usted/Ustedes commands are formed by using the third person singular (usted) or third person plural (ustedes) form of the present subjunctive. The negative command has no in front of the present subjunctive form. Cruce la calle. Cross the street. (you, formal & singular) No cruce la calle. Don’t cross the street. (you, formal and singular) Crucen la calle. Cross the street. (you, plural) No crucen la calle. Don’t cross the street. (you, plural)

Object pronouns are always attached to affirmative Usted/Ustedes commands. A written accent is added to when object pronouns are attached. Firme el cheque.  Fírmelo. Escriban las cartas.  Escríbanlas. Object pronouns are placed in front of negative Usted/Ustedes commands. No lo firme. No las escriban.
