2 Apuntes (21.10.13) Mandatos MANDATOS are commands for telling people what to do. You conjugate verbs depending on who you are talking to. tú = informal one person Ud. = formal one person Uds. = group of people (formal in Spain, both formal and informal in Latin America)

4 Apuntes (21.10.13) Mandatos Tú affirmative commands conjugate differently than the rest. – Use the él/ella/Ud. present tense form of the verb. – comer - ¡Come! – escuchar - ¡Escucha! – pensar - ¡Piensa! – abrir - ¡Abre!

6 Apuntes (21.10.13) Mandatos Tú negative commands and all Ud., Uds. commands conjugate the same: 1.Conjugate in the yo present tense. 2.Drop the –o. 3.Add the opposite endings: -ar-er / -ir tú negative-es-as Ud.-e-a Uds.-en-an

7 Apuntes (21.10.13) Mandatos Tú negative commands and all Ud., Uds. commands have a few irregular verbs: – ir - ¡No vayas! ¡Vaya! ¡Vayan! – dar - ¡No des! ¡Dé! ¡Den! – ser - ¡No seas! ¡Sea! ¡Sean! – estar - ¡No estés! ¡Esté! ¡Estén! – saber - ¡No sepas! ¡Sepa! ¡Sepan!

8 Apuntes (21.10.13) Mandatos The placement of pronouns with commands depends on if the command is affirmative or negative: affirmativenegative Pronoun is attached to the command and an accent is added to the third vowel from the end of the command The pronoun is written before the conjugated command. ¡Háblame! ¡Despiértate! ¡No me hables! ¡No te despiertes!
