Transcripción de la presentación:

Los verbos reflexivos Vamos a repasar los verbos reflexivos. Let’s start out by thinking of the English verb wash used in a sentence.

Algunos ejemplos I wash my clothes, I wash the dishes, I wash the car, I wash the windows. Lavo la ropa; lavo los platos; lavo el coche; lavo las ventanas. I wash my hands, I wash my hair, I wash my face. Me lavo las manos; me lavo el pelo; me lavo la cara.

¿Cuál es la diferencia? I wash my clothes, I wash the dishes, I wash the car, I wash the windows The person completing the action is not receiving the action. A person is completing the action and a different item is receiving the action.

Verbos reflexivos I wash my hands, I wash my hair, I wash my face. In Spanish these are the circumstances under which you would use the reflexive; the completer of the action is also the receiver of the action. In Spanish, we say, “Me lavo las manos, me lavo el pelo, me lavo la cara.”

El uso We need reflexive pronouns when conjugating reflexive verbs, which should be placed before the conjugate verb: Me Nos Te Os Se

Lavarse Drop the reflexive pronoun, then conjugate the verb accordingly. me lavo te lavas se lava nos lavamos os laváis se lavan

Let’s try one. Llamarse: to call oneself yo________________________ nosotros ___________________ vosotros____________________ ellos _______________________

Sentarse (e > ie) yo me siento tú te sientas él se sienta nosotros nos sentamos vosotros os sentáis ellos se sientan This verb is stem-changing.

Dormirse yo me duermo tú te duermes él se duerme nosotros nos dormimos vosotros os dormís ellos se duermen This is another stem-changing verb.

Ponerse yo me pongo tú te pones él se pone nosotros nos ponemos vosotros os ponéis ellos se ponen This –go verb changes as usual.

Los verbos reflexivos Despertarse (e>ie): to wake up Levantarse: to get up Acostarse (o>ue): to go to bed Dormirse (o > ue): to fall asleep Lavarse: to wash (oneself) Bañarse: to take a bath Ducharse: to take a shower Cepillarse: to brush (one’s hair/teeth) Peinsarse: to comb (one’s hair) Afeitarse: to shave Maquillarse: to put on makeup Sentarse (e > ie): to sit down Vestirse (e>i): to get dressed Ponerse (-go): to put on an article of clothing

Mudarse: to move (change residence) Los reflexivos Irse: to go away (from) Mudarse: to move (change residence) Darse cuenta (de): to realize (that) Preocuparse (por): to worry (about) Olvidarse: to forget (about) Morirse (de): to die (of) Ponerse + adjetivo: to get or to become Aburrirse: to get bored Enojarse: to get mad

Other things to remember If you use certain two-part verb combinations, the reflexive verb can either before the first verb or can be attached to the second verb. Querer + levantarse Quiero levantarme Me quiero levantar Quieres levantarte Te quieres levantar etc. Make sure that the reflexive pronoun agrees with the subject: yo <> me, tú <> te

Una rutina diaria Todos los días, yo ______ (levantarse) a las 7:00. ______ (ir) al baño, _______ (lavarse) la cara, y _______ (afeitarse). Luego ______ (vestirse = e > i) y ______ (tomar) un poco de desayuno. Por fin, _______ (lavarse) los dientes. Hint: not all the verbs in this paragraph are reflexive!

Una rutina diaria Todos los días, yo me levanto a las 7:00. Voy al baño, me lavo la cara, y me afeito. Luego me visto y tomo un poco de desayuno. Por fin, me lavo los dientes. Did you remember to use a reflexive pronoun with levanto, lavo, afeito, and visto? Did you remember to change the stem for visto?

Para practicar más Juana ______ (despertarse = e > ie) a las 6:30, ________ (levantarse), ______ (ir) al baño, y ________ (ducharse). Ella ______ (secarse), _______ (peinarse), y _______ (pintarse) la cara.
