THEY CAN NOT BE USED INTERCHANGEABLY! Why does it matter? Because both ser and estar mean “to be”, we have to distinguish between the two. Therefore, THEY CAN NOT BE USED INTERCHANGEABLY!

What we know so far: Ser is used for nationalities. Ser is used for time. Ser is used for descriptions. Ser is used to say where someone is from. Estar is used to talk about how you are doing. Estar is used to describe location.
