PREFERIR Here we will learn the verb PREFERIR, which means “to prefer.” But before we do, let’s look at 2 other verbs like PREFERIR.

QUERER and PENSAR Querer means… “to want” Pensar means… “to plan” or “to think”

QUERER and PENSAR Querer and Pensar are “stem-changing” verbs. They are “e > ie” stem-changing verbs.

QUERER and PENSAR The stem of “querer” is… “quer” The stem of “pensar” is… “pens” What changes? “quier” “piens”

QUERER and PENSAR Both verbs follow regular “-er and -ar” endings. o, as, a, amos, áis, an e, es, e, emos, éis, en

QUERER and PENSAR All forms change except the nosotros and vosotros forms. Let’s see!

QUERER yo quiero tú quieres él ella quiere Ud. ellas quieren Uds. nos. queremos (NO CHANGE) vosotros queréis ellos ellas quieren Uds.

QUERER and PENSAR When forms of QUERER and PENSAR are followed by another verb, the second verb is always in the infinitive.

PREFERIR Preferir is conjugated the same way as Querer and Pensar, however it is an “-ir” verb. Use the endings “o, es, e, imos, ís, en”

PREFERIR In PREFERIR, it’s the second “E” that changes from e > ie.

PREFERIR yo prefiero tú prefieres él ella prefiere Ud. nos. preferimos (NO CHANGE) vosotros preferís ellos ellas prefieren Uds.
