El Comparativo y El Superlativo The Comparative and The Superlative Comparing people and things

más/menos + noun/adjective + que EL COMPARATIVO To make a comparison or differentiation between two nouns or adjectives, use: más/menos + noun/adjective + que (more/less ____ than) Por ejemplo: -Hoy hay menos gente que ayer en el teatro. Today there are less people than yesterday in the theater. -El actor es más talentoso que yo. The actor is more talented than I.

EL COMPARATIVO The adjectives bueno(a), malo(a), viejo(a), and joven have irregular comparative forms. The words más / menos are not used: bueno(a) = mejor (que) better malo(a) = peor (que) worse viejo(a) = mayor (que) older joven = menor (que) younger

tanto(a)(os)(as) + noun + como EL COMPARATIVO To compare two similar nouns use: tanto(a)(os)(as) + noun + como (as many/much____as) **Since tanto is an adjective, it should agree with the noun in gender and number. Por ejemplo: -Hoy hay tanto público como ayer en el teatro. Today there is as much public as yesterday in the theater. -Hoy hay tantas personas como ayer en el teatro. Today there are as many people as yesterday in the theater.

EL COMPARATIVO tan + adjective + como To compare two similar adjectives, use: tan + adjective + como (as ____ as) Por ejemplo: -El cuadro de Picasso es tan bonito como el cuadro de Velázquez. Picasso’s painting is as pretty as Velázquez’s painting. -La artista es tan talentosa como el pintor. The artist is as talented as the painter.

el/la/los/las + noun + más/menos + adjective EL SUPERLATIVO The superlative is used to say something is the “most” or the “least”. To express a superlative comparison use: el/la/los/las + noun + más/menos + adjective (the most/least adjective noun) Por ejemplo: -El concierto más emocionante fue el de ayer. The most emotional concert was the one yesterday. -Para mí, la obra menos divertida es “Algún día”. For me, the least fun work, is “Algún día”.

el/la/los/las + mejor(es)/peor(es) + noun EL SUPERLATIVO When mejor and peor are used as superlatives, use: el/la/los/las + mejor(es)/peor(es) + noun (the best/worst ____) Por ejemplo: -Pienso que Alejandra Ruiz es la mejor bailarina. I think that Alejandra Ruiz is the best dancer. -¡Ustedes son los peores cantantes! You all are the worst singers!

EL SUPERLATIVO De is used after the adjective when the superlative comparison occurs within a group or category: Por ejemplo: -El concierto de ayer fue el más emocionante de todos. The concert yesterday was the most emotional of all.
