Los verbos reflexivos

Los verbos reflexivos I’m going to give you some examples of reflexive verbs and how they are used in the following slides. See what you notice about how they are similar or different to other verbs you’ve learned so far.

Dormirse: El niño se duerme a las ocho.

Ponerse: Tú te pones enojada.

Irse: Ellos se van.

What did you notice?

Los verbos reflexivos: These are verbs where to subject is doing the action to or for themselves. In the most basic infinitive form, these are the verbs that have the pronoun se attached to the end. Find 3 examples from your vocab sheet and put them in your notes.

Los pronombres refexivos Me Nos Te Os Se

Los verbos reflexivos When these verbs are conjugated or working with another verb (like tener + que), the pronoun matches the subject. Me duermo a las diez y media. Ellos se van de la clase. Yo tengo que lavarme la cara. Location of these pronouns follows the same format as direct object pronouns (DOP) and indirect object pronouns (IOP) Ellos se sienten bien. Yo necesito despertarme. Yo me necesito despertar.

Los verbos reflexivos NOTE: When a reflexive pronoun is attached to a present participle (-ing word), an accent mark is added to maintain the original stress. Ejemplos: Mi hermano está afeitándose. Add the accents to the correct vowel in the examples in your notes: La chica está bañándose. Ellos están durmiéndose.

Los verbos reflexivos: NOTE: Some verbs change meaning when they are made reflexive. Poner vs. ponerse and Dormir vs. dormirse NOTE: Some verbs can be either reflexive or not depending on the situation. Translate the following sentences and try to figure out why one is reflexive and the other is not. Lola lava los platos. Lola washes the dishes. Patricia se lava la cara. Patricia washes her face. Action done by subject to something else. Action done by subject to herself.
