Gramática- Subject Pronouns The subject of a sentence tells who is doing the action. You often use people’s names as the subject: Example: Gregorio escuha música. – Gregory listens to music You also use subject pronouns (I, you, he, she, we, they) to tell who is doing an action. The subject pronouns replace people’s names: Example: él escucha música – He listens to music. Here are all the subject pronouns in Spanish: Yo I Nosotros we (masculine) Nosotras we (feminine) Tú you (familiar) Usted you (formal) Vosotros you (masucline) Vosotras you (feminine) Ustedes you (formal) Él he Ella she Ellos they (masculine) Ellas they (feminine)

Subject Pronouns (cont.) Use tú with family, friends, people your age or younger, and anyone you call by his or her first name Use usted with adults you address with a title, such as señor, señora, profesor(a), etc. Use ustedes when speaking to two or more people, regardless of age. Use vosotros(as) when speaking to two or more people you call tú (informal) individually. Use ustedes when talking to two or more people you call usted (formal) individually. If a group is made up of males only or of both males and females together, use the masucline forms.

Examples (Yo form) Yo tengo la clase de ciencias naturales. -I have math class. Yo tengo la clase de educación física. - I have phsyical education class. Yo tengo la terea en la clase de arte. -I have homework in art class.

Examples (Tú/Usted form) Tú tiene la clase de ciencias sociales. -You have social studies class. Usted enseñar la clase de español. -You teach Spanish class.

Examples (él/ella form) Él tiene la clase de tecnología. -He has technology class. Ella tiene la clase de matemáticas. -She has math class.

Examples (Nostros form) Nostros tenamos la clase de arte. -We have art class. *Don’t forget nosotros is the masculine form of we. Nosotras tenamos la clase de ciencias naturales. -We have science class. *Don’t forget nosotras is the feminine form of we.

Example (Ellos/Ellas) Ellos tienen la clase de tecnología. -They have technology class. *Don’t forget ellos is the masculine form of they. Ellas tienen la clase de educación física. -They have physical education class. *Don’t forget ellas is the feminine form of they.

¡Vamos a Practicar! On a sheet of paper, write down a class someone has for each subject pronoun form (Yo, tú, él/ella, nostros, ellos/ellas) just like the examples from the lesson. Be prepared to discuss your answers with the class.
