I. Formas In preterite tense, the ‘Yo’ form changes spelling in verbs that end in: car gar zar

A. Verbs ending in -car In the ‘Yo’ form, change “c” to “qu” sacar, practicar, tocar, buscar, explicar, etc… sacar= to take out saqué sacamos sacaste sacó sacaron

B. Verbs ending in -gar In the ‘Yo’ form, change “g” to “gu” jugar, llegar, pagar, etc… llegar = to arrive llegué llegamos llegaste llegó llegaron

C. Verbs ending in -zar In the ‘Yo’ form, change “z” to “c” empezar, almorzar, comenzar, etc… empezar = to start, begin empecé empezamos empezaste empezó empezaron

II. Usos Preterite Tense- To describe a past action and emphasize the ending, or completion, of this action as one particular event or point in time.
