2 El Pretérito: is the past tense (“-ed”) it talks about what happened
is a completed action Examples in English: I went to the store. I bought a shirt. I paid in cash.

3 To form the preterite: Take the infinitive of the verb and remove the ar/er/ir. Then add the appropriate ending *Present tense changes do not happen in the preterite. Tomar tom- Hablar habl- Comer com- Beber beb-

4 Pretérito -ar verbs endings:
-é -aste -ó -amos -asteis -aron

5 Pretérito –er / -ir verbs are:
-í -iste -ió -imos -isteis -ieron

6 REMEMBER: accents are super important! They are in the “yo” form and the “él / ella / Ud.” -ar / -ir “nosotros” form is the same in present and preterit.
