Use of the grammar In the present tense: In the imperfect tense To explain peoples actions To describe inanimate objects Example: La puerta está abierta (The door is opened) In the imperfect tense To describe a condition that is a result of a previous action. Example: La puerta estaba abierta (The door was opened) General rule: It agrees with gender and number Most adjectives are actually past participle verbs.
