“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 (1 John 3) “Las características de la comunión” #3 (1 Juan 3) 12/07/2008 Dr. Dane Boyles

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 John gives us three things that the believer possesses in relation to prayer when they are in true fellowship. The Believer Has Assurance (vs. 19-20). El creyente tiene seguridad.

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 19 This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence 20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. (1 John 3:19-20)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 19 “This then is how we know...” (v. 19a) 19 En esto sabremos (v. 19a). 16 “He laid down his life for us” (v.16). 16 Jesucristo entregó su vida por nosotros (v. 16).

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 19 “...We set our hearts at rest in his presence (v. 19b). 19 “nos sentiremos seguros delante de él” (v. 19b) 20 “Whenever our hearts condemn us...” (v. 20a). 20 aunque nuestro corazón nos condene (v. 20a)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 John teaches us that we can’t depend on feelings. The Believer Has Confidence (vv. 21-22). El creyente tiene confianza.

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God (1 John 3:21) 21 Queridos hermanos, si el corazón no nos condena, tenemos confianza delante de Dios, (1 John 3:21)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 Our confidence comes from an assured heart. Nuestra confianza viene de un corazón firme. Our confidence is toward God in prayer. Nuestra confianza se dirige a Dios.

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 This is also true of the believer’s home. También es verdad del hogar del cristiano.

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 1 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, (1 Peter 3:1)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 Our prayers will be answered: 22 and [we] receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. (1 John 3:22)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 Nuestras oraciones serán contestadas. (1 Juan 3:22)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 The Believer Has A Witness. El creyente tiene testigo. We have a two-part commandment of the Father: Tenemos un mandamiento de dos partes:

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 23 Y éste es su mandamiento: que creamos en el nombre de su Hijo Jesucristo, y que nos amemos los unos a los otros, pues así lo ha dispuesto.

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 As a result, we have a witness. 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. (1 John 3:24) And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. (1 John 3:23-24)

(1 Juan 3.23-24)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. (Romanos 8.16)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 Our position in Christ: Begins with faith. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, (1 John 3:23a)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 Continues with love. 23 …and to love one another as he commanded us.

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 Is contingent on obedience. 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them.

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 Is confirmed by the Spirit. 24 … And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. (1 John 3:24b) Es confimado por el Espíritu. 24 ¿Cómo sabemos que él permanece en nosotros? Por el Espíritu que nos dio. (1 John 3:24b)

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 Conclusion When it comes to our prayers, do we have assurance?

“Characteristics of Fellowship” #3 The question for each of us is simple; are we enjoying fellowship with Christ?
