Usos de “por”: A./T. Expresses motion: through, along, by, around Pasé por tu casa ayer. I went by your house yesterday. Caminamos por el parque esta mañana. We walked through the park this morning.

Usos de “por”: T. #2 Means of transportation or communication; “via” Fuimos por avión. We went by plane. Lo llamé por teléfono. I called him on the phone (by phone).

Usos de “por”: R. To show motive/reason. ¿Se casa por amor o por dinero? Is she marrying for love or money? Come rápidamente por el hambre que tiene. He eats quickly because he’s so hungry.

Usos de “por”: R. (más) Expresses because of or on behalf of (substitution). No pudo participar por el accidente. He couldn’t participate because of the accident. Ella lo hizo por mí. She did it on my behalf.

Usos de “por”: A. Meaning to get/to go after something. Fuimos a la tienda por galletas. We went to the store to get cookies. Pasamos por ella ayer pero no estaba allí. We went by to get her yesterday but she wasn’t there.
