In Spanish, every noun has a gender, either masculine or feminine (boy or girl).

*Almost all nouns that end in –o are masculine. *Almost all nouns that end in –a are feminine.

Articles Articles are words that refer or modify nouns. Let’s compare them.

Let’s take a closer look!

The in English is a definite article The in English is a definite article. In Spanish, the definite article is either el or la. You use el with the masculine nouns and la with the feminine nouns. They must agree with the noun they modify. el muchacho la muchacha el amigo la amiga el curso la escuela

Note that in the plural form (more than one) el becomes los and la becomes las. el amigo los amigos el muchacho los muchachos el curso los cursos la amiga las amigas la muchacha las muchachas la clase las clases
