Talking about your daily routine When we talk about actions that reflect back on the speaker, such as “I wash my hands.” or “You brush your hair.”, we use… REFLEXIVE verbs.

Reflexive Verbs Reflexive verbs are conjugated like they normally would be. HOWEVER, they must have a reflexive pronoun with them.

You have learned many different types of pronouns: Subject pronouns yo nosotros tú X él, ella, usted ellos/ustedes

Indirect object pronouns: Remember… Indirect object pronouns: me l nos te l X le l les

Reflexive Conjugation Reflexive pronouns are: me l nos te l X se l se

Remember, the verbs are conjugated as normal, with the reflexive pronouns before the verb: (Yo) me lavo las manos. (Tú) te lavas las manos. (Ella) se lava las manos. (Nosotros) nos lavamos las manos. X (Ellos) se lavan las manos.

Práctica – escribe en español: 1. I wash my hands. (yo) Me lavo las manos.

2. He gets dressed. (Él) se viste. Or (Él) se pone la ropa.

3. Alfonso wakes up. Alfonso se despierta.

4. We wake up. Nosotros nos despertamos.

5. María brushes her teeth. María se cepilla los dientes.

6. The elephant (el elefante) takes a bath. El elefante se baña.

7. You (tú) put on makeup. (Tú) te maquillas.

8. The cat looks (at himself) in the mirror. 8. El gato se mira en el espejo.

Contrasting reflexive and non-reflexive use of verbs: When the recipient of the action is the speaker, you use the reflexive. When someone else is receiving the action, you do not use the reflexive.

Contrasting reflexive and non-reflexive use of verbs: The elephant takes a bath (bathes itself): El elefante se baña. The trainers bathe the elephants: Los entrenadores bañan los elefantes.

Por ejemplo: My uncle shaves. Mi tío se afeita. The barber shaves my uncle. El peluquero afeita a mí tío.

10. Your dad washes the car. Tu papá lava el carro.

11. The cat brushes his teeth (los dientes). El gato se cepilla los dientes.
