Direct Object Pronouns

Direct Objects Diagram each part of these English sentences: I want that skirt. I bought some shoes. What is the subject, the verb, the direct object?

Direct Object Pronouns Direct object pronouns take the place of the direct object in a sentence. For example:

Direct Object Pronouns Instead of saying, “I want that skirt,” you can say, “I want it” The word “it” takes the place of the word “skirt.”

Direct Object Pronouns (English) us them me you him, her, it

Direct Object Pronouns (Spanish) me (me) te (you) lo (him or it) la (her or it) nos (us) os (you all inf.) los (them, you all) las (them, you all)

Placement of Direct Object Pronouns Direct Object Pronouns, me, te, lo, la, nos, os, los and las are placed either before a conjugated verb or attached to the end of an infinitive.

Before the Conjugated Verb: ¿Cuándo compras la pizza? (¿Cuándo la compras?) La compro hoy. (Compro la pizza hoy)

Before the Conjugated Verb: ¿Isabel, tienes pimienta? (¿Isabel, la tienes?) No, no la tengo. (No, no tengo pimienta).

Before the verb or after the infinitive: Before the conjugated verb: ¿Quieres comprar el sombrero? Sí, lo quiero comprar. After the infinitive: Si, quiero comprarlo.

Direct Object Pronouns When the pronoun replaces both a masculine and a feminine direct object noun, we use los. For example:

Direct Object Pronouns ¿Cuándo compras la falda y el vestido? Los compro el sábado.

Direct Object Pronouns ¿Cuántos lápices necesito? Los necesitas todos. ¿Qué necesitas de la tienda? Necesito unos pantalones. (Los necesito.)

Direct Object Pronouns Julia, ¿me escuchas? Sí, yo te escucho. La Sra. Eichler nos enseña español. DON’T FORGET THAT THE VERB CONJUGATES DEPENDING ON SUBJECT NOT THE DOP.
