Stem-Changing Verbs Remember that all verbs have two parts in Spanish, the stem and the ending. Some verbs, like jugar, require a change in the stem before you can add the endings.

Stem-Changing Verbs Jugar is an example of a stem-changing verb. In order to conjugate this verb, the u in the stem changes to ue in all forms except nosotros and vosotros. Jugar: juego, juegas, juega, juegan.

Poder y dormir Like jugar, the verbs poder and dormir are also stem-changing verbs. These verbs have an o to ue stem change in all forms except nosotros and vosotros.

El verbo poder The verb poder is a “boot” or “shoe” verb that means “can” or “to be able to” do something. The stem pod and the ending er make up the verb poder.
