BAMBUCO FLOWER FESTIVAL ALEJANDRA VALENCIA DANIELA QUEBRADA YERLY GUZMAN

HISTORY Since the time of the colony, the Feasts of San Juan and San Pedro, constitute our most proud Cultural Tradition of Huila. Born of rural and village customs, this celebration remains as a reminder of old traditions. The National Bambuco Festival began in honor of San Juan Bautista. A saint of ancient Christian Europe, whom the Spaniards brought to America. In 1790 the governor of this province, Don Lucas de Herazo ordered the celebration of a special feast as an act of obedience to the King of Spain. It was a celebration that lasted for 10 days in the month of June ordering a series of activities in which the town intervened. One of these activities was a bullfight. There was also participation of Mojigangas that come to correspond today to the groups that should have the participation of the people. These festivities were born in order to celebrate "La Jura". The San Juan, June 24, the peasants dawned in the waters of flowery olan, colorful necklaces of peonies spaced with jet-laces, necklines with trimmings and many lace and perendengues. It was celebrated in the fields, usually in the form of family walks or groups, on the banks of a river where a "ranchería" was established, after the walk, the traditional roast. The San Pedro 29 of June was celebrated in the urban helmet of the town and was characterized by the cavalcade, the head of rooster, the prize rod, the gunpowder, aguardiente and music with the band of wind.
