What is the preterite? -a form of the past tense -in English = ed

- ar verbs 1) Find the infinitive e.g. hablar (to talk) 2) Remove the –ar ( = habl ) 3) Add é ( = hablé = I talked)

-ir and -er verbs 1) Find the infinitive e.g. vivir (to live) / comer (to eat) 2) Remove the –er / ir ( = viv / = com ) 3) Add í ( = viví = I spoke) (comí = I ate)
