1 When you come in, compare your homework explanation of the preterite with a partners. Do you explain what the preterite MEANS? Do you explain how to form the preterite for either an – ar or –er / -ir verb?

2 Preterite tense -A form of past tense -I did, I played, I went

3 -ar verbs 1)Remove –ar from infinitive 2) add –é (I) - aste (You sing.) - ó (He / she / it / You polite) - amos (We) - asteis (You plural) - aron (They / you plural polite)

4 -ar verbs 1)Remove –ar from infinitive 2) add –é (I) - aste (You sing.) - ó (He / she / it / You polite) - amos (We) - asteis (You plural) - aron (They / you plural polite)

5 -er verbs AND –ir verbs 1)Remove –er from infinitive 2) add – í (I) - iste (You sing.) - ió (He / she / it / You polite) - imos (We) - isteis (You plural) - ieron (They / you plural polite)

6 IRREGULARS! Sorry, but they are a fact of life - BUT look at the endings... KEY IRREGULARS fui=I went fue=it was

7 PLUS Note what happens with jugar Jugué Jugaste etc
