UNIÓN EUROPEA: “EUROPEAN CLOUD INITIATIVE” Revolución digital de datos, basada en supercomputadores, sistemas de almacenamiento y gestión de datos, y redes de comunicaciones Para hacer de los datos el motor de la Ciencia Abierta y de la 4ª Revolución Industrial, hay que mejorar los incentivos para compartir datos ,y también mejorar las infraestructuras de datos (que van hacia el “exascale computing”) Para dar respuesta a este reto, la Comisión, en su visión del Mercado Único Digital, va a impulsar la European Cloud Initiative” (ECI – Comunicación de abril de 2.016), que tendrá como primer elemento la “European Open Science Cloud” (EOSC), que se apoyará en la “European Data Infrastructure”, y que desarrollará un modelo que luego se expandirá al sector público y la industria. Ese proceso se apoya en el trabajo realizado en la Estrategia Europea de Cloud; las iniciativas de High Performance Computing y Big Data; las iniciativas de Open Science y Open Access; y en otras e-infraestructuras como las redes desplegadas por GÉANT y NRENs como RedIRIS, que llegan a 50 millones de investigadores y alumnos en Europa, y con gran potencial para prestar servicios centralizados.

RedIRIS: Servicios cloud Servicios cloud: muy relevantes en estrategia de RedIRIS, alineada con UE & GÉANT Posibilidad para poner en valor la red y servicios desplegados Integración con aspectos como autenticación y seguridad RedIRIS: proveedor neutral TIC del sector académico y científico, con capacidad para agregar demanda (eventual compra centralizada) Posibilidad de trasladar a España la actividad desarrollada en esta materia por GÉANT RedIRIS ya presta algunos servicios cloud (p.ej., lavadora), y tiene otros en piloto (p.ej., IRIS-Mail) Necesidad de validar elementos contractuales y administrativos Para los servicios directamente prestados por RedIRIS, el posible pago por uso Para los licitados por GÉANT, si se pueden trasladar sin más a las instituciones afiliadas a RedIRIS, como se está haciendo en otros países Si se identifica algún problema, hacer cambios que permitan superarlo

Network peerings with cloud providers GÉANT: ESTRATEGIA CLOUD (II) PEERINGS Network peerings with cloud providers By establishing network peerings with cloud service providers, GÉANT and the NRENs: deliver a high quality service in terms of performance, security and end-to-end service assurance. make it possible to minimize or remove the data transport related costs, which cloud providers currently charge our community. These data ingress and egress charges are a barrier to the adoption of cloud services by institutions. By directly peering, no commercial network routes need to be used, removing the need for providers to charge transport costs.
