The Subjuntive with Expressions of Doubt Sra. Lear Unidad 4 Etapa 3

The subjunctive is used after verbs that imply doubt. Yo dudo que mis padres me dejen ir al concierto de No Doubt. I doubt that my parents will let me go to the No Doubt concert. It is certain that I am doubting so I use the indicative. I am unsure if my parents will let me go so I use the subjunctive. Expressions of Doubt: dudar que…no creer que…no es cierto que… No es seguro que…no es verdad que…quizás…tal vez

In addition to expressing doubt with verbs like dudar, you can express doubt by saying that you dont think or believe something is going to happen.

Me gusta mucho el color, y no creo que te quede flojo. Isabel is sure she likes the color, so she uses the indicative. And she is sure of what she thinks, so she uses the indicative. But the fit is a matter of doubt, so she uses the subjunctive.

The subjunctive is used with expressions of doubt. Because they do not express doubt, creer que, no dudar que, and estar seguro que are usually followed by the indicative. Also es cierto que, es seguro que, es verdad que. ex: Estoy segura que te van a gustar.

Begin each sentence with an expression of doubt from above and end it with the subjunctive. 1.La chqueta roja de cuero es la más bonita. No creo que la chaqueta de cuero sea la más bonita. 2. Los chalecos con rayas son elegantes. No es cierto que los chalecos sean elegantes. Expressions of Doubt: dudar que…no creer que…no es cierto que… No es seguro que…no es verdad que…quizás…tal vez p.307 ACTS 9
