In 1766, Jeanne Baret sailed as assistant in the first French circumnavigation of the world. There wasn't permitted the presence of women, so she needed to disguise as a man. They found her womanhood and she was forced to land in Mauritius Island. She and her husband collected over 6000 samples of plant species of the places they visited.
