Affirmative and Negative Words The most common affirmative and negative words are sí and no. Other common affirmative and negative words: alguien-someone, anyone nadie-no one, nobody nada-nothing algo-something algún, alguno(s), alguna(s)-some, any ningún, ninguno, ninguna-no, none, not any siempre-always nunca- never tampoco- neither, never también- also, too
Practice Translate the following sentences into Spanish. She sees someone. Ella ve a alguien. She sees no one. Double negative: Ella no ve a nadie. Single negative: A nadie ve. We invite someone to the party. Invitamos a alguien a la fiesta. We invite no one to the party. Double negative: No invitamos a nadie a la fiesta. Single negative: A nadie invitamos a la fiesta.

Making comparisons To compare people or things that are equal to one another, you use: Tan + adjective + como (as + adjective + as) To say that things are not equal, use the negative (no)
Más comparaciones To say “as much as” or “as many as”, use: Tanto, -a + noun + como (as much + noun + as) Tantos, -as + noun + como (as many + nouns + as)
Conocer To say that one is or is not acquainted with a person, place, or an object. Use a after conocer when you know a person. This is called the “a” personal.
Saber To express knowledge or ignorance of a fact. To express knowledge or ignorance of a skill. Use saber with the infinitive of another verb to say that you know how to do something. To say you know something by heart.
