 In Spanish, there are singular and plural possessive adjectives.  Possessive adjectives are placed directly in front of the noun. (what is being possessed)  NOTE! Possessive adjectives must agree in number and gender with the noun and NOT the subject.

 Besides the SHORT form- mi(s), tu(s), su(s), nuestro (a/os/as),and vuestro (a/os/as)-  There is also a LONG (stressed) form. The long form tends to emphasize and to be more expressive.  María es mi amiga. -- María is my friend.  María es una amiga mía. -- María is a friend of mine.

**Must AGREE in gender and in number with the noun. Felipe is a friend of ours. Felipe es un amigo nuestro.

 To form the possessive pronoun: 1. Use the LONG FORM of the possessive adjective. 2.ADD el, la, los, las according to the gender and number of the NOUN it replaces.

 his house and ours  su casa y la nuestra  your dogs and mine  tus perros y los míos  my calculator and yours  mi calculadora y la tuya  Our school is better than theirs.  Nuestra escuela es mejor que la suya.

 NOTE: The definite article is generally omitted directly after the verb SER.  These books are hers.  Estos libros son suyos.  The money is mine.  El dinero es mío.
