“a” is used with “ir” to say someone is going to a specific place. Voy a la casa. I’m going home. When the place you are going is masculine combine “a” and “el” to form the word “al”. I’m going to the gym. “a” is used with “ir” to say someone is going to a specific place. Voy a la casa. I’m going home. When the place you are going is masculine combine “a” and “el” to form the word “al”. Voy al gimnasio. I’m going to the gym.

She is going to the library. Ella va a la biblioteca.

My parents are going to the office. Mis padres van a la oficina.

He is going to the principal’s office. Él va a la oficina del director.

To say you are “not” going somewhere add a “no” before the verb. No voy al gimnasio. I’m not going to the gym.

I am not going home. Yo no voy a la casa.

Where are you going? To say “where” use the question word: ¿Adónde? ¿Adónde vas? Where are you going (familiar)?
