2 The verb “ir” means “to go.” “ir” is an irregular verb.
Ir = to go The verb “ir” means “to go.” “ir” is an irregular verb. Use the verb ir + a, when you say that you are about to do something or that you are about to go somewhere.

4 Yo voy a mi casa. (I am going to my house).
Sentence structure Yo voy a mi casa. (I am going to my house). Notice the sentence structure: Subject Pronoun + ir + a (preposition). + location. Ella va a nadar. (She is going to swim). Notice the sentence structure: Subject Pronoun + ir + a (preposition). + infinitive. Notice that the “a” stands for “to”

¿Adónde vas, Ricardo? (Where are you going Ricardo?) Answer: Voy a la cafetería. (I’m going to the cafeteria) Note: Adónde = where to De dónde = where from Dónde = where

6 Classwork: conjugate “ir” and translate the sentence

8 Contraction: 1) I am going to the party. Correct: Yo voy a la fiesta. 2) I am going to the museum. Incorrect: Yo voy a el museo. a+el = al Correct: Yo voy al museo.
