Presente Perfecto Y EL SUBJUNTIVO

Past Participle All perfect tenses are made up of two parts: the helping verb and the past participle of the main verb: helping verb past participle helping verb past participle He has eaten. We have seen. They have left. You have finished. I have studied. She has fallen.

This is how you form the past participle in Spanish: Drop the –ar and add –ado: hablarhabladonadarnadado pensarpensadoalmorzaralmorzado llegarllegadoestarestado Drop the –er or –ir and add –ido: comercomidopoderpodido leerleídoquererquerido asistirasistidovenirvenido

There are, of course, irregular past participles in Spanish as there are in English. callhave called jumphave jumped lookhave looked eathave eated????have eaten bringhave bringed????have brought

You have to memorize the irregular past participles in Spanish just as you do in English. volvervuelto (NOT volvido) ponerpuesto (NOT ponido) abrirabierto etc. cubrircubierto escribirescrito vervisto morirmuerto decirdicho hacerhecho romperroto

¿Recuerdan? ABIERTO, CUBIERTO, DESCUBIERTO ESCRITO Y FRITO MUERTO, VUELTO, VISTO ROTO, DICHO, PUESTO Y HECHO, Y HECHO. (to the tune of Frare Jacques)

Helping Verb Now you need a helping verb to go with your past participles. What we use is the present tense of the verb “haber.” he habladohemos hablado has habladohabéis hablado ha habladohan hablado Use these verb forms with all your past participles: he comido, has querido, ha vuelto, hemos trabajado, etc.

¡A PRACTICAR! 1.YO/COMER 2.ELLOS/EMPEZAR 3.TU/VER 4.ELLA/PINTAR 5.NOSOTROS/ESCRIBIR 6.YO/VOLVER 7.MI MADRE/COCINAR 8.UDS/BEBER 1.HE COMIDO 2.HAN EMPEZADO 3.HAS VISTO 4.HA PINTADO 5.HEMOS ESCRITO 6.HE VUELTO 7.HA COCINADO 8.HAN BEBIDO

What does this have to do with the subjunctive? We can use the perfect tense in a subjunctive sentence to show that something has already happened. IE: Yo dudo que Uds. hayan comido una pizza entera. Mateo espera que su familia ya haya salido del hotel.

Like in the present perfect, we will use the verb “HABER.” This time though, it will be in the subjunctive. HABER Yo Nosotros Tu ElEllos HAYA HAYAS HAYA HAYAMOS HAYAN

And.. You just use the same PAST PARTICIPLES! COMIDOVUELTOHECHO SIDOLEIDO USADOESCRITOTOMADO

So, we will end up with sentences that look like this. 1.Yo no creo que Ana haya escalado las rocas. 2.Nosotros no pensamos que tu hayas estudiado mucho para el examen. 3.Es probable que yo haya sacado buenas notas. 4.Tu esperas que Anita no haya salido para Japón.

The same subjunctive rules apply. Should these sentences use subjuctive or not?

A ti te toca… 1.I hope that you have eaten lunch. 2.It’s important that we have packed our suitcases. 3.I doubt that my mom has seen this movie. 4.We deny that Juan has robbed a bank. 5.God willing, they have bought a new house.
