Reflexive Pronouns By: Rachel Hoffman

Subject Pronouns I You (familiar) You (formal) He She We All of you (familiar) All of you (formal) They (m) They (f) Yo Tù Usted èl Ella Nosotros (as) Vosotros (as) Ustedes Ellos Ellas

Reflexive Pronouns Me Nos TeOsSeSeSe

2 Different Meanings 1.An action that reflects back on the subject. -Yo me lavo I wash (myself) -Ella se levanta She gets up. 2. An action in which 2 or more subjects interact. -Nosotras nos reunimos por la tarde. We get together in the afternoon. -Ellas se miran. They look at each other.

Examples I wake at 9:00. Yo me despierto a las nueve. He showers at 3:00. Él se ducha a las tres. We dress at 4:00. Nosotros nos vestimos a las seis y diez.

What to do… If the verb that is reflexive is part of a verb phrase and isnt conjugated, add the reflexive pronoun (me, te, se, etc.) to the end of it (the verb).

Examples I want to eat breakfast. Yo quiero desayunarme. He is going to dress himself. Él va a vestirse. We are going to stay. Nosotros vamos a querdarnos.

Reflexive vs. Non-reflexive Dormirse = to fall asleep I always sleep 8 hours. Siempre duermo 8 horas. Dormir = to sleep I almost always fall asleep when I study. Casi siempre me duermo cuando estudio.

Reflexive vs. Non-reflexive Ponerse = to put on I put on my shoes. Me pongo los zapatos. Poner = to put or to place I put the shoes in the locker. Pongo los zapatos en el armario.

Reflexive vs. Non-reflexive The meaning of the sentence can change if you use the reflexive pronoun. Using the reflexive pronoun expresses a reciprocal action -the idea of each other.

Examples Llamo a mi amigo. I call my friend. Mi amigo y yo nos llamamos. My friend and I call each other.

Reflexive vs. Non-reflexive With non-reflexive the subject does the action to someone or something else. With reflexive the subject does the action to itself.

Where do they go? Put reflexive pronouns before conjugated verbs. Attach reflexive pronouns to affirmative commands. Put reflexive pronouns before negative commands.

Practice Model: Me voy a bañar. -Sí, bañate. 1.No me puedo calmar. -Sí, ______. 2.Nos queremos acostar.-No, __ ________ 3.Yo _____ 4.Mi hermano ______ 5.Mis padres ______ 6.Tù _____

Answers 1.Sí, calmate. 2.No, se acuesten. 3. Yo --> me 4.Mi hermano --> se 5.Mis padres --> se 6.Tù --> te
