Classroom Website: Dates to Know May 4 Walk-A-Thon May 4 Animal Report Exhibit May 19 Field Trip May 26 Spirit Day May 27 Minimum Day May 30 No School June 2 Talent Show June 6-10 Minimum Days June 10 Last day of school What we are doing in class…. Animal reports are going great. I am very impressed with the growth we have made in writing this year. We are continuing to work on handwriting and typing. We do not have a lot of time to devote to this, so it is a great skill to practice at home. Animal Report Exhibit We will be showing off all of our efforts in an exhibit on May 4th. Please try to come and see their report boards and dioramas. The exhibit will be open all day during school. We ask that students take home their dioramas and reports after school that day. May/June 2016 In Math, Number Base Ten is our last standard of the year. Students are expected to apply the various strategies (Place Value, Number Line, Bar Model, Commutative Property, Associative Property, regrouping, decomposing) to word problems. In conjunction, we have been working diligently how to put together a Math Expository writing piece to explain and justify our thought processes. Mental Math is also employed to add or subtract from any number. ** As of 4/25/16, only Spelling packet will be sent home for practice – please keep at home when done (no more Math homework packets). Students may continue to log into Jiji and Dreambox at home (optional) if they wish. In Science (the unit on Materials and their uses), students will work in groups to build a solar oven to discover what happens when materials (smores) are heated, and learn how materials can be reused...
