2 Example (1) We use the Present Perfect tense to show the result of an action. e.g. (a) . Paco está comiendo una garra de pollo. (b) Paco ha comido una garra de pollo.

3 2. Action that started in the past and still continues in the present
Marisol y Jacques han estudiado español por 2 años y media. (they continue studying Spanish) Marisol y Jacques estudiaron espanol por dos anos. (they stopped studying Spanish)

4 Example (2) We cannot use the Present Perfect tense with adverbs of time, e.g. yesterday, two weeks ago. I have done my homework yesterday.  I did my homework yesterday.

5 Past tense & Present perfect tense
 actions that happened in the past  actions that started in the past and continue to the present e.g. I sang yesterday. e.g. I’ve sung for two hours.  actions that have just finished e.g. I’ve just sung a famous song.

6 Past tense & Present perfect tense
 We know the specific point of time of the action.  We do not know the time of the action. e.g. I drew a picture last night. e.g. I’ve drawn a picture already.

7 Past tense & Present perfect tense
 verb - 1 word  verb - 2 words e.g. I started playing the violin in 2000. e.g. I’ve played the violin since 2000.  Hint words: yesterday, last night, last Sunday, last year, ago, in 2000  Hint words: since, for, already, just, yet, ever

In English we form the Present Perfect tense by conjugating the verb “HAVE” and adding the past participle of the verb Ex: he has seen, have you tried? they haven’t eaten.

10 The Present Perfect We generally use the Spanish present perfect in the same way we use its English equivalent.

14 The Present Perfect Certain verbs that have a double vowel in the infinitive form [except those with the double vowel ui – (construir / huir)] require an accent mark on the i in the past participle.
