Commands in “tú” form (informal) 1. Affirmative command = 3rd person singular indicative (abrir) Abre la puerta. (comer) Come la cena. (sacar) Saca la basura. Exceptions: (hacer) Haz la cama. (venir) Ven a mi casa. (poner) Pon la mesa. (decir) Di la verdad. (salir) Sal al cine (ir) Ve a la tienda. (tener) Ten un buen día (ser) Sé una buena persona.

2 Negative tú command How to form it? 1. Go to YO form in present tense indicative. 2. Drop the “o” and add opposite ending: -ar → -es -ir/-er → -as ►For verbs with these endings, spelling change occurs: Spelling changes: -car → -ques -gar → -gues -zar → -ces ex: pagar ►These are some irregular negative tú commands: ir → vayas ser → seas ver → veas

3 Practice forming tú negative command form.
Examples: (abrir) No abras la máquina de lavar. Step 1. Yo abro. Step 2. No abras… (poner) No la ropa en el piso. Yo ……. No ……. (secar) No las manos allí. Yo …….. No ………. (lavar) No la ropa sucia en el fregadero. 1. Yo …………. 2. No ……….. (salir) No de la casa a las once de la noche. No ……

A. Write the tú command. Then, add the d.o.p. Add accent when you have three + syllables. Look up words in dictionary if needed. Example: Tell the truth. Di la verdad. Dila. Listen to the teacher. Do your homework. Help your classmates. SPEAKING practice: You are giving commands to a classmate, but they either (a) always give an excuse to not do it OR (b) they say they do with proof. Ex: (a) ¡Pero no puedo porque no tengo tiempo! (b) Claro que sí (Of course). Siempre lo hago. B. Write the negative tú command. Put d.o.p. in front of conjugated verb. Example: Don’t throw pencils. (cepillarse) Get dressed quickly! (vestirse (i) ) A doctor to his/her patient would use the “Ud” command Go to bed early every day. (acostarse (ue) ) Don’t worry a lot. (preocuparse) Don’t get angry a lot. (enojarse) Don’t forget to pay the bill (la cuenta). (olvidarse de)
