3 Tener que + infinitive – to have to (do something) Tengo que – I have Tienes que – you have Tiene que – he, she, has / you polite have Tenemos que – we have Tenéis que – you have Tienen que – they, you have + infinitive: estudiar, poner, cerrar, usar, tener, ayudar, ir, etc. to study, to set, to close, to use, to have, to help, to go, etc.

6 Deber + Infinitive – to ought to, should (do something) Debo – I ought/should Debes – you ought Debe – he,she,you ought Debemos – we ought Debéis – you ought Deben – they,you ought + infinitive: ir, comer, ver, tener, hablar, estudiar, comprar, etc. to go, to eat, to see, to have, to speak, to study, to buy, etc.

7 Put the parts together Debemos ir. We ought to go. (We should go) Debes estudiar para el examen. You ought to study for the test. Ella debe jugar en el partido. She ought to play in the game. Vosotros debéis tomar Español III. You all ought to take Spanish III. All 2 components must be present: 1. Correct form of deber 2. The infinitive of the verb

8 Now you try. They ought to speak in Spanish. Ellos deben hablar en español. Should I be here tomorrow? ¿Debo estar aquí mañana? We should not have the party on Friday. No debemos tener la fiesta el viernes.
