5 Lets conjugate: Lavar: to wash yo lavo tú lavas --- To make a statement when talking to someone el/ella lava --- To give someone a command Tú lavas los platos. You wash the dishes. ¡Tú, lava los platos! You, go wash the dishes!

6 Most of the affirmative tú commands are the same as the conjugation for él or ella Infinitive verb Present Tense 3 rd person singular (el/ella) Affirmative tú command lavar barrer abrir lava barre abreAbre la puerta. Barre el suelo. Lava los platos.

7 However….. There are a few tú commands that you have to memorize because they are irregular verbs. These are on page 282… *decirdi*salir-sal *hacer – haz*ser-sé *ir- ve*tener-ten *poner-pon*venir-ven

9 Important points to remember to get it right: 1. Make sure to add the word a when using these verbs: sal, ven, ve * sal a means go out to. Go out to cut the grass. -- Sal a cortar el césped. * ven a --- means come to. Come to the party. ---Ven a la fiesta. * ve a ---means go to. Go to sweep the floor. – Ve a barrer el suelo. 2.When giving 2 commands, both verbs must be conjugated: Go and sweep the floor.Ve y barre el suelo. Both conjugated infinitive

10 Important points to remember to get it right: 3. Ten comes from the infinitive tener which means to have; to possess something. Have your homework.Ten tu tarea. Have the presents.Ten los regalos. Have the invitations.Ten las invitaciones.

11 Using the it expressions when giving a command: –In English: Have the homework tomorrow. Have it tomorrow. –In Spanish: Ten la tarea mañana. Tenla mañana. it is the direct object pronoun. Remember these? lo, la, los las Lets review them…

12 yo– me (me) nosotros/as- nos (us) vosotros/as- os (you all tú – te (you familiar) vosotros/as- os (you all él - lo (you formal, him, it) ellos– los (you, them) ella- la (you formal, her, it) ellas– las (you, them) Direct Object Pronouns página 204.
