2 DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS
You use DOP when you don’t want to keep repeating the noun. They are used to say: me, you, it/him/her, us, them

3 For example: Shut the book vs Shut it. I bought shoes. vs I bought them. I broke my ankle vs I broke it. *You are replacing the noun with a pronoun to make the sentence shorter and to avoid repetition.

4 Direct Object Pronouns:
Me Nos Te Os Lo/La Los/Las

5 For masculine singular nouns = “lo”
For masculine plural nouns = “los” For feminine singular nouns = “la” For feminine plural nouns = “las”

6 Pronouns are placed: BEFORE a conjugated verb, or Added on to the END an infinitive.

7 Comemos tacos. => Los comemos. Abrí la puerta. => La abrí.
Hice la tarea => La hice. Voy a comprar el coche. => Voy a comprarlo. Lo voy a comprar.

8 Práctica ¿Tomaste el examen? ¿Compraste la chaqueta?
¿Comiste las papas fritas? ¿Lavaste los platos? ¿Hablaste con el mesero?

9 Pronouns with Commands:
When used with commands = Affirmative = put it on the END of the verb Negative = put it BEFORE the verb Examples: Come la manzana. = Comela. No comas la manzana. = No la comas.

10 Práctica: Cut them. (las verduras) = Cortalas. Don’t cut them. = No las cortes. Cook them! (las galletas) ¡Cocinalas!

11 Look for it. (el lápiz) Do it (la tarea). Cook it (el pollo) Study it (el vocabulario) Listen to it (la canción)

They are used to say: “To or for”: me, you, him/her, us, them

14 Indirect Object Pronouns:
Me Nos Te Os Le Les

15 First, identify the indirect object of the sentence:
First, identify the indirect object of the sentence: *The indirect object of a sentence tells where the direct object of the sentence is going, or to whom the action is being done So, to figure out what the Indirect Object of a sentences is, ask: 1) Where is the object going? 2) To whom or for whom is the aciton being done?

16 John gives the book to Mary. So, the IO is = Mary!

17 Avnish buys Jules a rose
Avnish buys Jules a rose. *The IO = Jules The waiter gave Antoni the bill. *The IO = Antoni The teacher speaks to me. *The IO = me

18 Once you know what the IO of the sentence is, you can then replace it with an IO pronoun:
Me Nos Te Os Le Les

19 Avnish gives the rose to Jules. Avnish da la rosa a Jules.
IO = Jules. IOP for Jules = “le” Avnish le da la rosa. = Avnish gives her the rose. Avnish le da la rosa a Jules. (to clarify)

20 *El mesero sirvió la comida a nosotros.
IOP for nosotros = “nos” El mesero NOS sirvió la comida. *Mi padre habló a mi.  IOP for “a mi” = “me” Mi padre me habló.

21 Práctica The teacher spoke to me. = El maestro me habló. The teacher spoke to us. El maestro nos habló. The teacher spoke to them. El maestro les habló.

22 Práctica The waiter brings us the food. We sang to him.
They bought me a car. El mesero nos trae la comida. Le cantamos. Me compraron un coche.
