1 Possessive Adjectives and Pronouns FLT: Given notes on grammar, guided practice and a video, Students will be able to express possession in the target language for all 5 possible subjects in at least three different ways. In other words. You should be able to talk about who owns what in Spanish in three different ways.

2 Possessive Pronouns Let´s look at the possessive adjectives first. There are two sets. The first set goes before the noun.

3 Possessive Adjectives Short Form These go before the noun! mi / mismy tu / tusyour su / sushis, her, your nuestro, -aour nuestros, -as vuestro, -ayour vuestros, -as su / sustheir your You learned these last week

4 Possessive Adjectives (short form) in context. mi suéter mis suéteres tu suéter tus suéteres su suéter sus suéteres nuestro suéter nuestros suéteres nuestra sudadera nuestras sudaderas su suéter sus suéteres

5 Practice Using Possessive Adjectives (short form) in context. My jewelry. (joyas=jewelry) Your breakfast. (desayuno = breakfast) His apartment. (apartamento =apartment) Our stuff. (stuff=cosas) Their gear. (equipo=gear) Write translations in your notes.

6 Possessive Adjectives Long Form These go after the noun! mío,míamy míos, mías tuyo, tuyayour tuyos, tuyas suyo, suyahis,her suyos, suyasyour nuestro, -aour nuestros, -as vuestro, -ayour vuestros, -as suyo, suyatheir suyos, suyasyour

7 Possessive Adjectives (after the noun) el suéter mío, los suéteres míos (my sweater, my sweaters) la sudadera mía, las sudaderas mías (my sweatshirt, my sweatshirts) el suéter suyo, los suéteres suyos (his, her sweater / his, her sweaters) la sudadera suya, las sudaderas suyas (his, her sweatshirt / his, her sweatshirts)

8 Translate the following to English using the long form of possessive adjectives: My shirt. Your skirt. (falda=skirt) Our friend. (male) His dinner. (cena=dinner) Write translations in your notes.

9 Possessive Pronouns To form the possessive pronouns, use the long form of possessive adjectives proceded by the definite article. Both the article and the possessive must agree in number and gender with the noun they replace.

10 Possessive Pronouns El suéter mío (my sweater - poss. adj.) El mío (mine – poss. pron.) La sudadera nuestra (our sweatshirt) La nuestra (ours – pron.) El libro suyo (his book – poss. Adj.) El suyo (his – pron.)

11 Possessive Pronouns Mis padres son muy serios. ¿Y los tuyos? Los míos son bastante divertidos. Tu familia es muy pequeña. La mía es bastante grande.

12 Possessive Pronouns We often omit the article between the verb ser and the possessive pronoun. Esas maletas son nuestras. Mi hermano siempre dice que toda la culpa es mía.

13 Translate to Spanish: My sweater. Mine. (referring to your sweater) Our book. Ours. (referring to book) His backpack. His (referring to his backback) Your friend. Yours (referring to a friend that is female.)
