3 As your child’s teacher, I want to see your child succeed. The best chance for success involves all of us working together as a team. Let’s focus on two main ideas: how to create and sustain partnerships with families and the community and how these partnerships influence the learning and development of your children.

4 Como maestro de su hijo, quiero ver a su hijo a tener éxito. La mejor oportunidad para el éxito consiste en que todos trabajemos juntos como un equipo. Vamos a centrarnos en dos ideas principales : cómo crear y mantener alianzas con las familias y la comunidad y cómo estas asociaciones influyen en el aprendizaje y desarrollo de sus hijos.

5 Your children in my kindergarten classroom are in the Early childhood stage. This means that they should be able to sit still for about 25 or 30 minutes, walk in a line, can write their first names, they can color, they can draw, they can count, they are able to understand and follow instructions, they are starting to read, they understand math concepts, and they can work with peer without adult intervention. (School Sparks, 2011)

7 The elements of the mesosystem identified in Bronfenbrenner's Ecological theory influence children in the Early Childhood Development Classroom. The mesosystem of Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory consists of Family, School, Peers, Religious Affiliation, Workplace, and neighborhood. 8 Epstein’s 6 Types of Involvement TYPE 1--PARENTING: Assist families with parenting and child-rearing skills, understanding child and adolescent development, and setting home conditions that support children as students at each age and grade level. Assist schools in understanding families. TYPE 2--COMMUNICATING: Communicate with families about school programs and student progress through effective school-to-home and home-to-school communications. TYPE 3--VOLUNTEERING: Improve recruitment, training, work, and schedules to involve families as volunteers and audiences at the school or in other locations to support students and school programs. TYPE 4--LEARNING AT HOME: Involve families with their children in learning activities at home, including homework and other curriculum-linked activities and decisions. TYPE 5--DECISION MAKING: Include families as participants in school decisions, governance, and advocacy through PTA/PTO, school councils, committees, and other parent organizations. TYPE 6--COLLABORATING WITH THE COMMUNITY: Coordinate resources and services for families, students, and the school with businesses, agencies, and other groups, and provide services to the community. (Epstein, 1997)

10 Parenting “ The recognition that parents are key elements in children’s learning is reflected in the U.S. Department of Education’s Goals 2000 Education America (1993)” (Barbour, 2008). How does parenting influence a child’s learning and development? “When optimal, parenting skills and behaviors have a positive impact on children’s self-esteem, school achievement, cognitive development and behavior” (Landry, 2014). What can be done to optimize parenting skills? Directly following this presentation, I would appreciate if you stick around to participate in a quick survey. I would like to find out some information about what parenting workshops that you would find the most useful and are most likely to attend. From there, I will have a good idea of the best way I can assist you as a parent. (Davis, 2000)

11 Crianza de los hijos “El reconocimiento de que los padres son elementos clave en el aprendizaje de los niños se refleja en metas 2000 educación América el Departamento de Educación de Estados Unidos (1993)“ (Barbour, 2008). ¿Cómo influye la paternidad aprendizaje y desarrollo de un niño? "Cuando óptimo, comportamientos y habilidades como padres tienen un impacto positivo en la autoestima infantil, rendimiento escolar, desarrollo cognitivo y comportamiento" (Landry, 2014). ¿Qué puede hacerse para optimizar habilidades como padre? 12 Communicating How does communication influence a child’s learning and development? The key to any good relationship is good communication. The parent-child relationship, parent-teacher relationship, and the teacher-student relationship is no different. “Family-teacher relationships are essential for learning about the children from an additional and valuable source, promoting children’s emotional health, and helping children deal with difficult problems that may have lifelong consequences” (Klein, 2008). A good way to promote open communication is through emails, newsletters, phone calls, conferences, texts, a daily notebook, and family activities.

13 Comunicación ¿Cómo influye la comunicación aprendizaje y desarrollo de un niño? La clave para una buena relación es buena comunicación. La relación padres- hijos, relación entre padres y maestros y la relación profesor-alumno no es diferente. "Las relaciones de familia y maestros son esenciales para el aprendizaje de los niños desde una fuente adicional y valiosa, promoción de la salud emocional de los niños y ayudar a los niños a lidiar con problemas difíciles que pueden tener consecuencias para toda la vida" (Klein, 2008). 14 Volunteering How does volunteering influence your child’s learning and development? Volunteering is a great way for you to show your child that you are interested in them and what they are doing. As your child’s teacher, I understand that not all parents can attend every classroom activity or event due to work and other family or illness related situations. I am prepared to offer you with flexible times to volunteer. Please fill out the forms that I provided you with what fits in best with your schedules and I will make sure and find the volunteer approach that best suit you and your family.

15 Voluntariado ¿Cómo voluntariado influye el aprendizaje y el desarrollo de su niño? El voluntariado es una gran manera para que usted pueda mostrar a su hijo que usted está interesado en ellos y lo que están haciendo. Como maestro de su hijo, entiendo que no todos los padres pueden asistir a cada aula actividad o evento debido al trabajo y otros familiares o enfermedades relacionadas con las situaciones. 16 Learning at Home How does learning at home influence your child’s learning and development? As parents, you are your child’s first teachers. They learn from you. They watch you and they model your behavior. “The most important element of a positive learning environment at home is structure”(Myers, 2014). To create a positive learning environment for your family it is important that you Help your child develop a work area where they can study and focus without being interrupted, help your child make homework a habit, schedule a set time each day for homework, Help your child develop a method of keeping track of homework assignments, and ensure that there is a good open line of communication between parents and teacher (Myers, 2014).

17 Aprendizaje en casa ¿Cómo aprender en casa influye el aprendizaje y el desarrollo de su hijo? Como padres, son primeros maestros de su hijo. Ellos aprenden de ti. Te miran y que modelan su comportamiento. "El elemento más importante de un ambiente positivo de aprendizaje en el hogar es la estructura"(Myers, 2014). Para crear un ambiente positivo de aprendizaje para tu familia es importante que usted ayudar a su hijo desarrollar un área de trabajo donde pueden estudiar y foco sin ser interrumpido, ayudar a su tarea de hacer de niño un hábito, programar un tiempo cada día para la tarea de conjunto, ayudar a su niño a desarrollar un método de seguimiento de tareas y asegurar que exista una buena línea abierta de comunicación entre padres y maestros (Myers 2014).

18 Decision Making How does decision making influence your child’s learning and development? As your child’s teacher I want to include you in the decisions made about your child’s education. I also want to encourage your child to be an active participant in making decisions regarding their education. Children explore and discover, inquire and hypothesize, and make choices and decisions, they gather, organize and interpret information. Then they use their decision making abilities to form ideas by thinking about what they have done, heard and learned. They interpret these experiences, and take their own meaning and understanding from them and this is called decision making. Making good decisions is an important part of early childhood development. How can parents and teacher promote good decision making? Provide opportunities for children to make simple decisions by asking them to explain the reasons for their choices helps them develop skills of evaluation. We should also model the steps for decision-making by talking through decisions you need to make.

19 Toma de decisiones ¿Cómo influyen en su aprendizaje y desarrollo de decisiones? Los niños explorar y descubren, investigan y presumen y realizar elecciones y tomar decisiones, reunir, organizar e interpreta información. Luego usan sus habilidades de toma de decisiones a las ideas de forma de pensar sobre lo que han hecho, escuchado y aprendido. Interpretan estas experiencias y tomar su propio significado y comprensión de ellos y esto se llama toma de decisiones. Tomar buenas decisiones es una parte importante del desarrollo infantil temprano. ¿Cómo pueden los padres y maestros promover buenas decisiones? Proporcionar oportunidades a los niños a tomar decisiones simples pidiéndoles que explique las razones de sus decisiones les ayuda a desarrollar habilidades de evaluación. 20 Collaborating with the Community How does community collaboration influence your child’s learning and development? “When schools, parents, families, and communities work together to support learning, students tend to earn higher grades, attend school more regularly, stay in school longer, and enroll in higher level programs” (National Education Association, 2008). To promote student growth and school success well thought out parent-community-school partnerships, linked to school improvement goals, are needed in every community. I will pass out a list of community resources available to you at the end of this meeting.

21 Colaborando con la comunidad ¿Cómo influye la colaboración comunitaria aprendizaje y desarrollo de su niño? "Cuando las escuelas, padres, familias y comunidades trabajan juntos para apoyar el aprendizaje, los estudiantes tienden a obtener calificaciones más altas, asisten a la escuela regularmente, permanezcan en la escuela más tiempo y matricularse en programas de nivel superiores"(National Education Association, 2008). Para promover el éxito de los estudiantes escuela y crecimiento bien pensado, asociaciones de padres-comunidad-escuela, ligadas a objetivos de mejora de la escuela, son necesarios en cada comunidad.
