2 Adjectives  Adjectives modify nouns  Adjectives are description words for: people, places, things, or ideas  Adjectives are typically placed after the noun  The exception to this rule is quantity- they are placed before noun  Which adjectives do you know, besides numbers, that are quantitative?

3 Adjectives  Adjectives must agree in quantity (singular or plural) and gender (masculine or feminine)  (We’ve already gone over this- you should have the notes for it already. 4 Contractions  We only have 2 contractions in Spanish:  a + el = al  de + el = del  “a”- at/to  “de”- of/from  “el”- the  Every time you have the word “a” or “de” in a Sentence and the word “el” (article for singular/masculine noun) comes immediately after, you have to make the contraction.  Yo llego a el colegio a las siete Yo llego al colegio a las siete.  “el colegio is the noun in the sentence.

5 Contractions  Another example:  Yo salgo de el colegio a las dos y cuarto de la tarde  Yo salgo del colegio a las dos y cuarto de la tarde Unlike contractions in English, the 2 contractions in Spanish are not voluntary. You must use them!

6 Cohesive Devices  You must use cohesive devices to make your sentences flow.  We use them in English,  They are equally important in Spanish  You already have a few: “y”, “o”, “también”, “tampoco”, “pero”  If you look at your rubric, you will notice you are graded on your use of cohesive devices

8 Cohesive Devices in Context  Mi madre tiene los ojos castaños. Yo tengo los ojos castaños también. (My mother has hazel eyes. I have hazel eyes also.)  Yo estudio después del colegio.(I study after school.) – Also, notice the use the the de + el contraction “del”  Primero, yo hago la tarea. Entonces, me baño. (First, I do homework. Then, I bathe.)  No me gusta la película. No me gusta tampoco. (I do not like the movie. I do not like it either)
