2 Present tense of regular verbs Terminology: Verb = action word Infinitive = the most basic form of a verb – in English, the form starting with “to” (to talk, to eat, to live) – in Spanish, the form ending with –ar, –er, or –ir (hablar, comer, vivir) Subject = the person/thing that is doing the action Tense = the time when the action is done (present, past, future) Conjugate = change the verb to agree with (match) the subject and the tense; usually we change the ending according to a pattern Regular verb = verb that follows the usual pattern of conjugation Irregular verb = verb that does not follow the usual pattern of conjugation
