2 Use estar to indicate location and to say how people feel.  Here is the conjugation of Estar  Yoestoy nosotros estamos  Túestás vosotros estáis  Él/ella/ud. Está Ellos/ellas/uds.están Yo estoy en la escuela. - I am at school. Estamos en la cafetería. We are in the cafeteria. Ellos están en la biblioteca. They are in the library.

3 Estar is used with adjectives to describe how somone feels. Remember adjectives must agree in gender and number with the nouns they describe.  María está preocupada por Ignacio.  Maria is worried about Ignacio.  Ignacio está preocupado por María.  Ignacio is worried about Maria.  Yo estoy contento.  I am happy!  Susana y Juana están deprimidas.  Susana and Juana are depressed.  Juan y Miguel están deprimidos.  Juan and Miguel are depressed.  Chiqui y yo estamos cansados.  Chiqui and I are tired.

4 Translate  The lady is happy.  La mujer está contenta.  The men are tired.  Los hombres están cansados.  Angela and Rebecca are nervous.  Angela y Rebecca están nerviosas.  I am angry.  Yo estoy enojado/a  José and I are sad.  José y yo estamos tristes.  You(María) are calm.  Tú estás tranquila.

6 When you talk about where things are located, use prepositions of location. Here are some common ones.  Detrás de = behinddelante de= in front of  Cerca de= nearlejos de= far from  Encima de= above; on top of dentro de= inside  Al lado de= next toentre= between  Debajo de= under (underneath)  La bibiloteca está al lado del baño.  The library is next to the bathroom.  Yo estoy cerca de la escuela.  I am near the school.  El lápiz está encima del cuaderno.  The pencil is on top of the notebook. De + el= del

7 You will use prepositions of location with the verb estar. Use the word de after the location word when a specific location is mentioned. When de is followed by the word el, they combine to form the contraction del.  Ejemplos  La cafetería está lejos  The cafeteria is far.  The gym is behind the library.  El gimnasio está detrás de la biblioteca.  David está delante del baño.  David is in front of the bathroom.  Estamos cerca del banco.  We are near the bank. Estoyestamos estásestáis estáestán De + el = del
