3 The indicative Used to express actions that do, did, or will defintely take place. “Real events” I am going to the store. Voy a la tienda She didnt go to school yesterday. No fue a la escuela ayer We will go to the city next week. Vamos por la ciudad la semana que viene.

4 El Subjuntivo Used to express an action that is desired or hoped for, but may not be “real”. Used when there is doubt. I want you to be happy. Quiero que estés feliz. They want their mom to cook dinner. Ellos quieren que ella cocine la cena. *Subjunctive because these are only hopes and desires of the subject*

5 Present Subjunctive AR & ER/IR Verbs Take infinative present “yo”, drop the “o” and add the opposite ending. *similar to commands* AR verbs take “E” ER/IR verbs take “A”

9 Subjunctive is used… The express uncertanity and doubt (subjects need to change) I am not sure if he is coming to the party. No estoy segura que el venga a la fiesta. He doubts that I love him. El duda que le ame. The mother wants the baby to be beautiful. La mama quiere que la bebe sea bonita.

10 Key words that indicate use of subjunctive Uncertanity & Doubt (Dudar que, Negar que, No creer que) No estoy segura de que ellos vengan. ( I am not sure they will come) Dudo que mi novio sea fiel. (I doubt that my boyfriend is faithful). No creo que me llame. I dont think he will call me.

17 A few differences My dog is missing. It is small and brown. I am looking for the dog that is small and brown. “Busco el perro que es pequeño y moreno” We use indicative because we know the dog is real and its appearance. That dog exists

18 I am now looking for a dog to buy. I want a dog that is small and brown. Busco un perro para comprar. Quiero un perro que sea pequeño y moreno. I use subjunctive because I am not talking about a dog that is “real”. I am expressing my wants and desires of how the dog looks.
