5 Stem-changing verbs Stem-changing –AR and –ER verbs have the same stem-change in the subjunctive. The stem change occurs in the boot. Volver = to return vuelva, vuelvas, vuelva, volvamos, volváis, vuelvan Jugar = to play juegue, juegues, juegue, juguemos, juguéis, jueguen

6 Stem-changing –IR verbs Stem-changing –IR verbs have the same stem-change in the present subjunctive (in the boot), BUT The nosotros and vosotros forms will change from e  i or o  u Sentir : sienta, sientas, sienta, sintamos, sintáis, sientan Dormir: duerma, duermas, duerma, durmamos, durmáis, duerman

10 Expresiones impersonales The subordinate clause (la claúsula subordinada) must have a stated subject in order to use the subjunctive. Otherwise an infinitive must be used. Compare: Es necesario que Es necesario estudiar. ella estudie.
