3  Son insectos sociales.  Tienen tres castas: reina, obreras y zángano.  Solo las obreras tienen aguijón.  Viven en colmenas o en nidos.  Recolectan polen y fabrican miel. Usan agujeros naturales en el suelo o cuevas abandonadas de roedores. Otras especies construyen un nido con trocitos de paja y otros fragmentos vegetales directamente sobre el suelo. Mezclan la saliva o la cera con otros materiales para construir nidos, ollas. También usan cera para la construcción de celdas.

9 Caso clínico  J.E.E., varón de 41 años, trabaja desde hace 17 años en un invernadero que cultivan tomates y pimientos, utilizando el abejorro Bombus Terrestris para la polinización. En este periodo ha recibido pocas picaduras, aproximadamente 7, con reacción cutánea normal. La última picadura, fue en la nariz y a los 30 minutos presentó edema facial, urticaria general, vomito y perdida de conocimiento.
