1 Presente Progresivo (Present Progressive)
Used to talk about something that is in progress (ejemplo en inglés…We are swimming.) Formed by using the form of estar in the present tense, + the present participle (gerund). ESTAR estoy estamos estás estáis está están

2 Present Participle Take ar/er/ir off end of verb, then add new ending:
For –ar verbs, the ending is “ando” Ej: nadar = nadando (swimming) For –er & -ir verbs, the ending is “iendo” Ej: comer = comiendo (eating)

3 Irregular Present Participles
Double vowel verbs: iy Leer = leyendo Traer = trayendo Creer = creyendo Also…Ir = yendo

“ir” stem-change verbs: ei or ou Servir = sirviendo Repetir = repitiendo Dormir = durmiendo Morir = muriendo

5 Estar + Present Participle
Nosotros estamos hablando español. =We are speaking Spanish. Yo estoy escribiendo un ensayo. =I am writing an essay.

6 Reflexive Verbs For reflexive verbs, you have 2 options of where to put the reflexive pronoun (me, te, se, nos, se): I am waking up. (Yo) me estoy despertando. (before conj verb) Or…(Yo) estoy despertándome. (tacked onto present participle, adding an accent on vowel right before the letter “n”)

(Nosotros) estamos leyendo una novela. Ella está corriendo. El mesero está sirviendo la comida. Mis amigos se están lavando las manos. Or…Mis amigos están lavándose las manos. Pedro está durmiendo en la clase.

9 PAST Progressive Used to talk about something that WAS in progress
(ejemplo en inglés…We WERE swimming.)  Formed by using the IMPERFECT form of estar in the imperfect tense, + the present participle (gerund). ESTAR estaba estábamos estabas estabais estaba estaban
